Newfolden - Wallace Roppe, 72, died on Monday, August 29, 2005 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Friday, September 2, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Rev. Nancy Hanson and Reverend Raynard Huglen officiating. Casket bearers included Gale Roppe, Larry Roppe, Orland Roppe, Dale Roppe, Gary Roppe, Gerald Nelson, Barry Nelson, Michael Holten, David Peterson, Ricky Peterson, Russell Olson, Scott Nelson, Jeremy Nelson, Matthew Nelson, Gregg Nelson, Shane Nelson and Steven Nelson. Interment was held at Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden.
Wallace Roppe was born on April 3, 1933 in East Park Township, Marshall County, the son of Richard and Sarah (Thorson) Roppe. He was baptized in the Lutheran faith and confirmed in Gustavas Adolphus Lutheran Church in Strathcona, MN. Wallace attended Country School and also Middle River School.
Wallace was united in marriage on April 17, 1951 to Joan Nelson by Reverend Myhrer, near Newfolden.
Wallace worked road construction, driving gravel truck and operating heavy equipment. He was also employed by the Marshall County Highway Department, operating a road grader. He enjoyed farm work and could operate most equipment.
Wallace was a hard worker. He was forced to retire due to his poor health. He enjoyed his “Hobby Farm” and loved horses, John Deere tractors, music and dancing, and owning and driving new cars and pickups.
He was a member of the Eagle’s Club in Thief River Falls.
Wallace is survived by his wife, Joan of Newfolden; one daughter, Barbara (Curtiss) Farbo of Thief River Falls; two grandchildren; two brothers, Roy (Laura) Roppe of Newfolden and Erwin Roppe of Vancouver, Wash.; two sisters-in-law, Adeline Roppe of Thief River Falls and Lorraine Roppe of Fargo, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bert and Thorfen; and sister-in-law, Alice Roppe. A00003B2005SP07
