Oklee - Ione Austad, 80, died on Wednesday, August 24, 2005 at the McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh.
Funeral services were held on Monday, August 29, at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in rural Oklee, with Rev. Frank Ehling officiating. Casket bearers included Troy Austad, Rory Austad, Jonathon Austad, Jamey Austad, Alan Hoiby and Josh Austad. Interment was held at the Ebenezer Cemetery, Mayfield Township, Pennington County.
Ione Charlotte Weberg was born on February 25, 1925 near Trail, the daughter of Adolph and Amanda (Lucken) Weberg. She grew up and attended school in Trail and Gonvick. Following school Ione attended Beauty School in Red Lake Falls and worked as a beautician before her marriage.
She was united in marriage to Ole Austad in Hibbing, in 1943 at her parents home. The couple lived and farmed its entire life on Ole’s home farm in Mayfield Township, Pennington County.
Ione worked on a neighbor’s chicken farm off and on for several years. She also worked with the Chamber of Commerce in Thief River Falls. She moved to McIntosh Manor in March of 2005.
Ione was an avid sewer, loved gardening, berry picking, working crossword puzzles, word games, and enjoyed cooking and baking. She won the Minnesota State Humanitarian Award, Rural Beautification Farm Award and was chosen ‘Resident of the Month’ in August at the Nursing Home.
Ione is survived by three sons, Russell Austad, Oklee; Lyle (Vickie) Austad, Trail, Gary (Darlene) Austad, Detroit Lakes; two daughters, Judy (Gary) Bartz, Coon Rapids; Jean Hoiby, Blaine; nine grandchildren;16 great-grandchildren; one sister, Diane (Orval) Erickson of Fargo, N.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Ole in 1995; three brothers, Richard, Dean and Robert; and three sisters, Lucille, Jean and Donna.
