Thief River Falls - Clara Harder, 87, died on Monday, August 29, 2005 at her niece’s home in East Grand Forks.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 31, 2005 at Calvary Lutheran Church in St. Hilaire, with Rev. Terri Cuppett officiating. Casket bearers included Wayne Harder, Steven Harder, John Olson, Charlie Olson, Rory Anderson and Bob Hjeldness. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
Clara Ericka Olson Harder was born on November 4, 1917 in Minneapolis, the daughter of Edwin B. and Randi (Iverson) Olson. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith, in Minneapolis. She moved with her parents to the Crookston, area, where they lived for a short time and then moved to Wylie Territory, where she started school. Clara then moved to Black River Township, where she attended school the whole term.
Clara worked doing housework for local neighbors, before she was united in marriage to Lawrence M. Harder on June 29, 1940 in Thief River Falls. The couple lived in the St. Hilaire Territory. Clara also worked at Inga’s Café, St. Hilaire Liquor Store and for 13 years at the Eagle’s Club in Thief River Falls, as a waitress and bartender. Due to ill health she retired in 1985. Her husband, Lawrence, died in 1994 and Clara sold the ‘Hobby Farm’ and moved to Thief River Falls into the Skylite Apartments.
Clara enjoyed raising ducks, geese and chickens and loved gardening, knitting and crocheting. She was a member Calvary Lutheran Church, VFW Auxiliary and Eagle’s Auxiliary of Thief River Falls.
Clara will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She is survived by sister-in-law, Clara Olson of Thief River Falls; nieces and nephews, Wayne (Donna) Harder, Annette Harder and Steven Harder and Greg (Penny) Harder, all of Thief River Falls, Yvonne (Bob) Bidwell of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, Betty Harder of Thief River Falls, Bob Olson of Kentucky, John (Delores) Olson of Thief River Falls, Clarice Olson of St. Paul, Charlie (Pam) Olson of Grand Forks, N.D., Linda Olson of Grand Forks, N.D., Helen (Rory) Anderson of Thief River Falls, Marlene (Bob) Hjeldness of East Grand Forks, Bill (Julie) Olson, Ann (Greg) Brosseau and Russell Olson, all of Thief River Falls and Beverly Pawloski of Argyle; several great-nieces and nephews; and several great-great nieces and nephews. special friend, Marilyn Mosbeck; and all her friends at Skylite Apartments.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; one son, Elvern; her mother, Randi; her father, Edwin; one sister, Alvina; brother Clarence and brother Russell in 1995.
