Embarrass, Wis. - Berniece J. Jelle, 74, of the Pine Manor Health Care Center in Embarrass, Wis., formerly of Appleton, Wis., and Grygla, died on Friday, October 1, 2004 at Pine Manor. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla, with Rev. Mary Ronning-Gilthvedt officiating. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the church only on Saturday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service. Berniece was born on August 2, 1930 in Fosston, the daughter of Edward and Sonva (Hove) Norem. She graduated from Fosston High School in 1948 and then earned her teacher’s certificate in Thief River Falls. She also got a B.S. degree and a master’s degree from Bemidji State University. During this time, she met and married Walter L. Jelle on August 1, 1954 at the Grace Lutheran Church in Grygla. The married couple lived in Grygla their entire married life until Walter passed away in October 1990. Berniece was very involved with her church and loved to teach and use her musical talents. As a member of Grace Lutheran Church, she served as their organist, served on the church choir, was a member of the Ladies Aid, and was a piano and Sunday school teacher. She was also a member and past president of her local Alpha Xi Chapter. Overall, Berniece taught for 42 years, the last 20 years as a sixth grade teacher. She retired in 1994. Berniece had an obvious love for music and also enjoyed writing, reading, traveling, and meeting new people especially on her bus tours. Survivors include three children, Brenda Albaugh of Appleton, Wis., Bruce (Kandrea) Jelle of Chanhassen, Michelle Amondson of Golden Valley; five grandchildren; one brother, Elmer (Marlowe) Norem of Rotonda West, Fla.
