Karlstad - Frances Lavina Peterson, 86, died on Wednesday, October 6, 2004 at the Karlstad Healthcare Center.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 12 at the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle in Karlstad, with Pastor Mark Hanson and Pastor David Riveness officiating. Casket bearers included Jim Johnson, Terry Johnson, Jerry Holte, Eric Heath, Gale Quiner and Odean Anderson. Interment was held at Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Frances Lavina Peterson, the daughter of the late Olaf and Louise (Rapp) Bakko, was born on May 4, 1918, in Belgrade. As a child, she moved with her family to a farm in Deerwood Township of Kittson County, near Karlstad, where she grew to womanhood. She was raised in the Christian faith and graduated from Karlstad High School in 1936.
On Nov. 17, 1938, Frances was united in marriage to William Berkholtz by Pastor Kluver in Halma. The couple farmed north of Karlstad until Bill’s death on September 30, 1963.
On July 7, 1975, Frances married Carl Peterson in Karlstad and they resided in Karlstad. Frances was a long-time member of the Karlstad Gospel Tabernacle and had a passion for her faith, church, and family and friends. She was employed at the former Hanson’s Café in Karlstad for many years. Carl passed away May 31, 1997. Frances had recently entered the Karlstad Healthcare Center, where she died on Wednesday afternoon.
She is survived by four sisters, Gladys Sollund of Hallock, Agnes (Tom) Smeby and Florence (Gilbert) Lund, both of Flint, and Marian Johnson of Karlstad; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Frances was preceded in death by her husbands and parents.
