Halma - Don N. Johnson, 68, of Halma, died on Sunday, August 14, 2005, of a heart attack that resulted in a four-wheeler accident near his home.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad, with Pastor Gary Halverson officiating. Interment was held at Eidsvold Cemetery in Halma.
Don Noell Johnson, the son of the late Philip and Esther (Lofberg) Johnson, was born on July 18, 1937, in Greenbush. He attended school and grew to manhood in Karlstad, and was baptized and confirmed at First Lutheran Church in Karlstad. Don graduated from Karlstad High School in 1955, and from North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D., in 1962.
On August 31, 1957, Don was united in marriage to Janis Martinson in Halma. He was employed in various positions and places by the United States Dept. of Agriculture for over 30 years. He retired in 1992, and in 2000, the couple moved to their present home in Norway Township of Kittson County, near Halma. Don was an active member of the Karlstad Country Club and especially enjoyed golfing and fishing with his buddies. He also enjoyed tending their hobby farm. .
He is survived by his wife, Janis; one son: Evan, of Olathe, Kan.; one daughter: Desiree (fiancé: Mark Winkenwader) Stark, of Topeka, Kan.; three grandchildren; two sisters, Jane Anderson, of Arden Hills, and Loes Ingeman of Hallock; in addition to several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Jae in 1983; two sisters, Leatrice Larson and Rose Marie Johnson in infancy; and a brother, Larry. A00003B2005AG24
