Evelyn and her family homesteaded in Manitoba, Canada, for several years during the depression, returning to Minnesota in a covered wagon in 1934. She attended schools in Manson, Manitoba, Canada; Karlstad; Middle River and Goodridge.
She married William J. Wayne, December 1, 1940 and the couple settled in Grand Plain Township, Marshall County on the farm next to Bill’s father, Will C. Wayne. Later they moved to the home place where they resided until Bill’s death in 1996. She lived briefly at Valley Home and then at Greenwood Terrace where she made many wonderful friends.
In addition to being a busy and capable farm wife and mother, she enjoyed gardening and fishing in summer with her husband at Jake’s Northwest Angle Resort on Lake of the Woods. She was a leader of the Mavie 4-H club while her children were members, as well as a member of the local homemaker’s club. She was excellent at needlework and crafts, especially crocheting. She had a warm and ready smile to greet friends and family alike.
