Harvey, N.D. - Carroll D. Steedsman, 80, of Harvey, N.D., and formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Sunday, July 3, 2005 at the St. Aloisius Medical Center in Harvey, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Friday, July 8, at First Lutheran Church in Harvey, N.D. Interment was held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery of Mandan on Friday, July 8.
Carroll was born on September 22, 1924 in DeLamere, N.D. He was the son of Earl and Mary (Jorgenson) Steedsman. Carroll grew up and attended school in DeLamere. He was inducted into the Army in December of 1943. He served in the Philippines during the Luzon campaign. Carroll was honorably discharged in April 1946 and returned to DeLamere.
He married Mayvis Johnson on August 16, 1944 in Breckenridge. In 1946 he moved with his family to Enderlin, N.D., where he was employed by the Soo Line Railroad. During his career he worked as a laborer and machinist. He was later promoted to Roundhouse Foreman and served in Harvey, N.D., Thief River Falls and Bismarck, N.D. Carroll retired in August of 1985. They returned to Harvey. They also spent winter months in Arizona. Carroll was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Harvey and was a charter member of the VFW and American Legion in Enderlin. He was a member of the Lions and Eagles Clubs in Harvey and the Soo Line Veterans Association. Carroll was also a member of the 1952 Enderlin Indies Championship Baseball team.
Carroll is survived by three sons and three daughters-in-law, Skip and Carol Leigh of Enderlin, Gil and Grace of Harvey, Scott and Marlene of Bismarck; two daughters and one son-in-law, Sylvia Brockman of Bismarck, Joleen and Scott Swang of Harvey; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Carroll was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mayvis of 56 years; 5 brothers and 3 sisters.
