Maple Plain - Dean A. Bergland, 65, of Maple Plain, died unexpectedly on June 13, 2005, while courageously battling colon cancer.
A memorial service was held at the Christ Lutheran Church in Maple Plain on June 17, at 11 a.m.
Dean was born January 30, 1940, in Thief River Falls to Clarence and Lorraine Bergland.
Dean attended Northrup Elementary School and he graduated from Lincoln High School in 1958. He also graduated from the Minnesota School of Business in 1960. In 1956, he began working for Western Oil and Fuel in Thief River Falls and transferred to Western Oil and Fuel in Minneapolis in 1958. Dean later worked for Shaver and McCarthy in Wayzata. Dean was a co-owner of Johnson and Sons Chevrolet Dealership in Waverly and then became the general sales manager of Star West Chevrolet dealership in Delano for 23 years. He was active in the Maple Plain Lions Club and was also a member of the Maple Plain Planning Commission.
Dean had a lifelong love of golfing, sign painting and spending time with his family and dogs at their lake home in Kandiyohi County. Dean had an amazing ability to make connections with strangers and to remember everyone’s name and personal story. He had countless wonderful customers and friends.
Dean is survived by Toni, loving wife of 42 years; children, Cathy, Beth (Christian) Johnson and Brent (Raina) Bergland; three grandsons; brother, Dale (Eleanor) Bergland; and many wonderful family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
