Nathan Alan Holmvik was born June 12, 1978, in Thief River Falls, to Peter and Sandra (McCollum) Holmvik. He lived with his family in Holt,  until the age of 4 years when they moved to Bejou.
Nathan attended school in Mahnomen and graduated from Mahnomen High School with the class of 1996. He then attended Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead for a year.
He was employed by MN CEP for two summers and then, for a year, at Cenex in Bejou. For the next seven years, he worked at the Shooting Star Casino in Mahnomen, until last August when his health no longer allowed him to work. He was proud of his work and his perfect attendance record.
He was a kind and loving person who liked to visit and play cards and shake dice with friends and family and he also liked to play bingo. Nathan always enjoyed a good joke and his steadfast determination served him well as he struggled with his illness in his life.  He also liked to sing, which was evident when performing karaoke, and he loved to do puzzles and plastic canvas art work. Nathan, and his good friend and co-worker, Curtis Thielen enjoyed going to movies and hanging out together.
Nathen is survived by his parents, Peter and Sandra, Bejou; three brothers, Jeremy (Cindy) Holmvik of Ramsey, Christopher and Dustin Holmvik of Bejou; his sister, Erica Holmvik of Bejou;  a niece, Candice Holmvik of Ramsey; step-niece and step-nephews, Christopher and Camille Smeby of MacIntosh and Corey Smeby of Ramsey; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Bernice McCollum, Herman and Ethel Holmvik and his uncle, Owen Holmvik. A00003B2005JN29
