Thief River Falls - Nona Mackenroth, 84, died on Thursday, June 23, 2005 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D.
Funeral services were held on Monday, June 27, at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Ole Martin Wasstrand officiating. Casket bearers included all of Nona’s Grandchildren. Interment was held at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Nona E. Nelson was born on May 18, 1921 in Thief River Falls, MN, the daughter of Robert (Bob) and Anna (Wasstrand) Nelson. She was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. She grew up and attended Knox Elementary School, Central Junior High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1939, all in Thief River Falls.
Nona was united in marriage to George O. Mackenroth. She was employed at NuWay Café, Ben Franklin, Bostwick’s, Arctic Cat and Penney’s.
Nona enjoyed crafts, fishing, reading, bird watching, going to the casino and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Nona held membership with the American Legion and VFW Auxiliary.
Nona is survived by her children, Mary (Bob) Bandur of Williams, Ariz., Keith of New Hope, N.M., Karen Grim of Clovis, N.M., and Vicky (Steve) Breiland, Thief River Falls; one cousin, 10 grandchildren; and 18 great- grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; her parents; brothers, Miloy, Donald and Gerald (Gerry) and son-in-law, John Grim.
