Thief River Falls - Surrounded by her loving family, at her daughter’s home, Jennie Arlene Olson of Thief River Falls, went to sleep and woke up in Heaven on Thursday, June 19, 2014 at the age of 83.
A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 24 at Silverton Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Larry Myhrer officiating. Interment was held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Jennie Arlene (Berggren - Kaushagen) Olson was born in Thief River Falls, on Feb. 3, 1931, the daughter of Melvin and Helga (Berggren) Kaushagen. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith. Jennie attended school in Thief River Falls.
After high school, Jennie moved to Seattle where she worked as a waitress for a year. Then the love of her life, Walfred Olson asked her to return to Thief River Falls to be his wife. They were then united in marriage on Nov. 6, 1954 at Silverton Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They made their home in Adger Township, Marshall County and raised their two children: Duane John and Darlene JoAnn.
Jennie worked various jobs throughout the years including Northern Pride and Arctic Cat.
Jennie loved spending time with her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and friends. She took pride in her Scandinavian heritage and teaching it to her grandchildren. Jennie enjoyed good company and great laughs. She took pride in her gardening, enjoyed to mow the lawn, and always looked forward to the Lutefisk suppers with her brother. As an active member of Silverton Lutheran Church, she enjoyed Bible study and other church activities.
Jennie is survived by her daughter, Darlene (Glenn) Bakken of Warren; grandchildren, Shannon (Mitch) Zak of Middle River, Shelly (Bryce Corneliusen) Zak of Warren, Daniel Olson of Thief River Falls, Tara (Steve) Johnson of Warren, and Tyler (Mikala) Jevne of Warren; great-grandchildren, Gage Zak, Kohl and Brady Zak, Zander Olson, Austin and Kinley Johnson, Weston and Wyatt Jevne; brothers, Michael (Becky) Kaushagen of Thief River Falls, and Steve (Linda) Kaushagen of Thief River Falls; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Walfred; son, Duane; and one infant grandson.
