Barry Neil Hanson was born Aug. 28, 1954 at Thief River Falls, son of Norman and Madonna (Lundeen) Hanson. He was born and raised in the Thief River Falls area. He attended country school near Oklee, and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1972. Barry entered the U.S. Navy in 1974 and served his country until his honorable discharge on Sept. 14, 1984.
Following his discharge, Barry worked in various industries including working for his brother Roger at his Machine shop, Arctic Cat, Machinewell and various farmers in the area. Barry was a very talented, smart person the type that could pick up a guitar and teach himself how to play.
If something needed to be measured whether it be a kitchen cabinets, building a garage or a book shelf it needed to be exact. He was very good at drawing, he knew war history and had a memory like no other. Barry was very quick witted with a great sense of humor. He was a man with a big heart and would do anything for anyone.
Barry enjoyed playing cards, hunting and fishing, riding motorcycle, playing croquet, pool and playing bingo. But most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his siblings Roger (Linda Crompton) Hanson at Big Lake, Diane (Mike) Jury of Thief River Falls, and Vanessa (Steve) Appel of Thief River Falls: son Matt Kinnunen of Virginia: nieces and nephews Melissa Hodgson, Ashley Jury, Arne Rantanen, Joe Appel; along with several great-nieces and nephews.
