Thief River Falls - Fern Stenberg, 91, of Thief River Falls, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at Greenleaf Senior Living Center, Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 18 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls, with Reverend John Voelker, PhD. officiating.
Fern Lillian Stenberg was born on Sept. 13, 1922 in Schooner. Fern was the daughter of John and Christine (Zackerson) Brodin. She lived in Schooner, until 1945 when she moved to Thief River Falls.
Fern was united in marriage to Vernon Norman Stenberg who served active duty in the Navy. He was discharged in 1945, when the two got married in Baltimore, Md.
Fern was stay at home mother to her two children Jill and Greg Stenberg. In Fern’s spare time, she loved to play cards; especially Hand and Foot Canasta. She also loved to play other games such as Bingo and Yahtzee. She enjoyed working on word search puzzles and putting together puzzles. Her favorite pastime was gardening. Her favorite flower was the lilac which symbolizes the first emotions of love and youthful innocence. She was always such a child at heart.
Survivors include two children: son Greg Stenberg (Scottsdale, Ariz.); daughter, Jill (fiancé Brian Schindler) Stenberg; nine grandchildren, Heather Payton, Laura (fiancé Mallory Baker) Stenberg, Tiffany (fiancé Seth Carlson) Stenberg, Harlee Stenberg, Julianna Stenberg, Daniel Stenberg, Justin Sundvall, Cody Stenberg, and four great-grandchildren: Storm, Austin, Spencer, and Sky.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Norman Stenberg, her parents John and Christine (Zackerson) Brodin, and her daughter Kris Stenberg.
