Thief River Falls - Mary Grundhaus, 95, Thief River Falls, died Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center, Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, June 13 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with MSGR Roger Grundhaus officiating and Father Rick Lambert concelebrant. Casket bearers included Rick Grandbois, Darrel Page, Allan Page and Mike Grandbois. Interment was held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.
Mary Ann Grundhaus was born June 6, 1919 at Browns Creek Township, daughter of the late Felix and Elizabeth (Gedde) Grandbois. Mary was baptized and confirmed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. She was raised in Browns Creek Township and attended country School District 108. She helped farm and garden on the home farm until she was 21. Mary worked as nanny, waitress  and was a domestic helper.
On May 25, 1946, she was united in marriage to John (Jack) Grundhaus at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls. The couple made their home in Thief River Falls. Mary worked at the Rex Café and Hanson Café and did child care for families in the Thief River Falls area. John passed away Aug. 7, 1990. Mary continued to live in her home until moving to Pioneer Court in 2008.
Mary enjoyed vegetable and flower gardening, fishing, and her animals. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, baking and canning. She was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, and the ladies guild. Mary’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Kim Fanfulik, Abby Shetler, Stella Blawat and Diane Wilson for all of their assistance the past few years.
Mary is survived by her children Karen (Don) Hanson of Coon Rapids, and Ken (Sue Schneider) Grundhaus of Thief River Falls: grandchild Christy (Brad) Hahn of Deerfield, Ill.; great-granddaughters Grace, Lilly and Kate; sister-in-law, Albina Grandbois of Cudahy, Wis., along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband John; infant twin daughters; siblings, Esther Page, Alice Roy, Ralph Grandbois, Paul Grandbois, Lucy Bruneau and Jim Grandbois.
