Thief River Falls - Lona Moen, 45, Thief River Falls, died Thursday, May 22, 2014 at Thief River Care Center, Thief River Falls.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate the life of Lona Moen was held Tuesday, May 27 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Casket bearers included Paul Kasprick, Bruce Paulson, Chet Camp, Ron Johnston, Don Johnston and Cory Moen. Honorary casket bearers included all of Lona’s family and friends.
Lona Rae Kaushagen was born May 6, 1969, to Luther (Luke) and Larae (Hiebert) Kaushagen in Moorhead. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Thief River Falls, in 1987. She then attended Brainerd Technical College. Following school she lived and worked in Bismarck, N.D., for two years, before returning to Thief River Falls. She worked at various places throughout her lifetime, including the Best Western, DigiKey, and NW Medical Center. She ended her working career in 2008 due to ill health.
She married Keith Moen June 12, 1993. A son, Lucas, was born Feb. 9, 1998. Lona was creative and artistic; she wrote and illustrated several children’s books for Lucas. She crafted beautiful multi-dimensional pictures which she shared with family members.
She is survived by her husband Keith and son Lucas, her parents Luther and Larae, also her brother Matthew and fiancée Kathryn Wilkes. Survivors also include her grandmother LaVonne (Don) Thune, many aunts, uncles, and cousins, her mother-in-law Betty Moen and brother-in-law Cory Moen.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law Marvin Moen, maternal grandparents Emil and Vivian Hiebert and paternal grandfather, Gordon Kaushagen.
