Thief River Falls - Dorothy Bergman of Thief River Falls passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 18, 2014 at the age of 97.
She was able to leave this world from her own home, thanks to the efforts of her son, Doug and the Hospice of the Red River Valley.
A prayer service for Dorothy was held Friday, March 21 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Greg Schram officiating. Interment will be held at a later date in Slayton.
Dorothy Jane (Foster) Bergman was born on Sept. 18, 1916 in Ingomar, Mont., to Frank and Agnes (Graf) Foster. The family moved back to Minnesota when Dorothy was 4 years old. They lived in several areas of Minnesota, including Akeley, Fulda and Balaton.
Dorothy was married to Ken Bergman on April 10, 1941, in Slayton. They farmed in the Avoca and Slayton areas until 1960, when they built Broadway Bowl in Slayton.
Dorothy and Ken moved to Thief River Falls in 1967, where Ken managed the Family Bowl and Dorothy opened the 707 Beauty Shop. Both were avid bowlers and snowmobilers.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters, JoEllen (Jason) Blixrud of Maple Lake, and Sharon (Russ) Mobraaten of Billings, Mont.; son, Doug Bergman of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Jeff (Joyce) Lewis of Chisago City, and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; son, David, and grandson, James.
