Oklee - Myra K. Nesland, 85, rural Oklee, passed away at Sanford Hospital in Thief River Falls, on Friday, Feb. 21, 2014. Myra was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith as a child.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Feb. 25 at Ebenezer Lutheran Church in rural Oklee, with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating. Interment was held at Ebenezer Cemetery.
Myra was born on Aug. 1, 1928 to Aslak and Mildred (Brown) Dahle and raised on a farm east of the town of Highlanding in Minnesota. She attended elementary country school and attended Lincoln High School in Thief River Falls. Myra played “kitten ball” or softball as a child; the boys always chose her as she was good at it. Music and attending church became part of her youth and adult life.
Myra married Omer Nesland in 1946; they met in Highlanding at a dance, they both loved to dance. Myra taught their children how to dance. They spent their married life on the farm raising their four children. Myra worked at Oklee School and the Heritage Center in Thief River Falls later after the children left home. She worked until she was 75 years old – it kept her young. Myra loved gardening, baking, and teaching the children.
Survivors include her four children: Myrna Nord (David) of Warroad, Delmer Nesland of Oklee, Debbra Swanson (Tony Brennan) of Buffalo, and Mark Nesland (Anita) of West Virginia; two brothers Floyd Dahle of Milwaukee, Wis., and Torval Dahle of Hibbing; six grandchildren: Julie Hanson, Trisha Rumple, Trevor Swanson, Daniel, Matthew and Scott Nesland; and five great-grandchildren; Richard Nord, Amy and Megan Hanson, and Piper and Hank Swanson; and many nieces and nephews.
Myra is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Omer; her sister Doris Dahle, infant twin brothers; a grandson Jonathan Nord; and a son-in-law Larry Swanson.
