Howard, Wis. - On Jan. 9, 2014, Randy Ness, 51, of Howard, Wis., cherished and devoted husband, adoring and guiding father, compassionate and loving friend, succumbed to his depression and ended his life. He was born Aug. 24, 1962, to Ernest and Mavis (Hovland) Ness, residing in Argyle.
On June 25, 1983 Randy met Kim McFarland. On that day, she knew he was the one she wanted to spend her life with; it was love at first sight. On June 10, 1984, Randy married Kim in Thief River Falls. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1984 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management and Computer Science.
Randy was employed by EDS/HP, and most recently by IBM. He belonged to Rackers Home Brew Club and enjoyed brewing beer and making wine. He also enjoyed fishing, especially at his family’s lifetime cabin on Lake Lida. Randy loved entertaining family and friends, filling their stomachs and hearts with his cooking and laughter. He will be terribly missed.
Randy is survived by his wife, Kim; three sons, Payton and his fiancée, Amanda Larson, Green Bay, Wis., Kyle and Evelyn Ness, Suamico, Wis., and Taylor Ness, Oklahoma City, Okla.; his mother, Mavis Ness, Fergus Falls; four siblings and their spouses, Nancy and Chris Roche, Cumming, Ga., Judy Elston, Valley City, N.D., Sheryl and Glenn Stoltman, Argyle, Jerry and Karen Ness, Fergus Falls; father-in-law, Duane McFarland and his special friend, Arliene Brown; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Gwen and Terry Lappegaard, Grand Forks, ND, and Lance and Dee Dee McFarland, Argyle; nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ernest Ness; a brother-in-law, Jim Elston; mother-in-law, Elaine McFarland; and a nephew, Andy Ness.
Visitation was held at Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., Green Bay, Wis., on Sunday, Jan. 12. Visitation continued and was followed by the Funeral Service on Monday at Peace Lutheran Church, in Kunesh, Wis.  To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.
