Middle River - Edward H. Johnson, 84, of Middle River, died Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at the Karlstad Healthcare Center, Karlstad.
Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 22 at First Lutheran Church, Middle River, with Pastor Rena Peterson officiating. Casket bearers included Tom Gullikson, Tony Gullikson, Mike Smith, Andrew Carlson, David Gram and Jesse Miller. Interment was held at First Lutheran Cemetery, Middle River, with military honors accorded by the Middle River American Legion Post 444.
Edward Howard Johnson, the son of the late August and Stella (Gram) Johnson, was born on Dec. 11, 1928, in Whiteford Township of Marshall County, near Thief Lake. He attended school and grew to manhood there and was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He worked for Collins Construction of Fargo, ND, as a heavy equipment operator prior to entering the U.S. Army in 1950 where he served until 1952.
Following discharge, he continued to work for Collins Construction for over 25 years. Eddie was united in marriage to Judith Gullikson on March 10, 1956, at Middle River. He was a welder at the former H & M Manufacturing Co. in Middle River for two years and then worked as custodian at the Middle River Public School until retirement.
He was a long-time member of the Middle River American Legion Post 444 and served there in many capacities. He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Middle River and served on both the Middle River Fire Dept. and the ambulance squad for many years. Eddie served as Veterans Service Officer for eastern Marshall County and taught gun safety at Middle River. He also was the Middle River water and sewer custodian for many years. Judie passed away August 28, 2011, and since this past August, Eddie has resided at the Karlstad Healthcare Center where he passed away Monday morning, Nov. 18, 2013, at the age of 84 years, 11 months and 7 days.
He is survived by one son: Ryan (Robin), of Thief River Falls; two daughters: Theresa (Cathy Meyer) Johnson, of Moorhead, and Wenda Sang, of Karlstad; five grandchildren: Grant and Tony Sang, Kameren (Ashley) Johnson and Isaac and Emma Johnson; one sister Virginia (Bruce) Smith, of Colfax, WI; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Eddie was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two sisters: Annabelle Nelson and Amay Jesme, and one brother: Robert.
