Thief River Falls - Wayne Johnson, 75, Thief River Falls, died Monday, Nov. 11, 2013 at Hillcrest Senior Living, Red Lake Falls.
Memorial visitation was held Friday, Nov. 15, at Johnson Funeral Service Chapel in Thief River Falls.
Wayne was born on February 6, 1938 in Thief River Falls, the son of Earl and Dorothy (Jansen) Johnson. He grew up in Thief River Falls and attended St. Bernard’s Catholic School and Lincoln High School. Wayne enlisted in the Army August 1955 and was honorably discharged in 1956 from Camp Chaffee, Arkansas. He was married to Sophie (Bustrycski) in 1972 and to this union were born two children, daughter Donna, and son Earl.
Wayne worked at Bucyrus-Erie (now known as Caterpillar) in South Milwaukee, Wis.; and Hydra-Mac in Thief River Falls. In 1998, Wayne retired after suffering a stroke, he provided care for his mother; and spent the final years of his retirement at the Senior Citizen Apartments in Thief River Falls, Valley Home Assisted Living, and Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls.
Wayne has been a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church for many years, and an active member of the American Legion Ecklund-Holmstrom Post 117 and the VFW Post 2793 in Thief River Falls. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, he loved to watch old westerns especially John Wayne and enjoyed reading. His family remembers him for the jokes he loved to play on others and his sense of humor. Uff-da.
Wayne is survived by his daughter, Donna (Jeff) LaMott of Milwaukee, Wis.; son, Earl (Jenny) Johnson of South Milwaukee; and grandchildren Jacob, Ryan, Austin, Ava Johnson all of Milwaukee, Wis.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Joan Kruger; brother Richard Johnson; and aunt and uncle Leonard and Ardith Jensen.
