Holt - Clara Anne Wegge, 90, of Holt, died Friday, Oct. 18, 2013 at Hillcrest Senior Living in Red Lake Falls, after hospitalization and recent surgery in Grand Forks, N.D.
Memorial services will be held on Wednesday, Oct. 23,  at 2 p.m. at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, with Pastor Del Moen officiating. There will be a Visitation with family one hour prior to the service at the church.
Clara was born on Feb. 5, 1923 in Polk County, the daughter of the late Emelia (Nelson) and Anton Thoreson of Rindal.  She attended  rural school in Rindal and later attended Fargo Beautician School.  On June 4, 1949 she was united in marriage to George W. Wegge. They lived all of their married life in Holt, on the family farm. To this union were born five children; four girls and one boy.
Clara moved to Detroit, Mich., for employment with the War Department in 1945, she drove jeeps and other transportation for the Army Corps of Engineers and participated in the successful conclusion of World War II as an active civilian working for the Federal Government. She was transferred to Knoxville, Tenn., during her time of service.  In 1946, Clara moved to Minneapolis and worked for Honeywell; later, in 1947, she graduated from the Fargo Beautician School.  Later that year Clara moved to Thief River Falls where she worked as a waitress and a beautician. While waitressing she met her husband George, he took one look at her and said “I’m going to marry you.”  They lived their married life together on George’s farm in Holt, where Clara remained until 2013.
Clara was a member of the Holt Lutheran Ladies Aide, she loved to travel to visit family, was an avid fan of the Vikings and Twins, was well known for her baking of bread and apple pies, and cooking for the church fall suppers. Clara also crocheted and quilted, and was an avid reader. In 1968, she became the first woman school bus driver for Marshall County, she also worked for Arctic Cat for 15 years. Clara retired at 76 years of age as a Home Health Aide for Marshall County when George became ill.
Clara is survived by three daughters, Debbie Willert of Miller, S.D., Bobbi Anderson of Thief River Falls, and Jennifer Wegge of Vallejo, Calif.; one son, Dean Wegge of Owatonna; eight grandchildren, Jamie Soland, Chelsea Soland, Dustin Harken, Joshua Harken, Andrea Johnson, Nathan Wegge, Amy Anderson, and Justus Wegge; six great-grandchildren, Jamalyn Soland, Dinah Harken, Norah Harken, Camdyn Anderson, Evan and Rylan Gackstetter; two sisters, Ethel Whaler, and Mabel Wollin; four sisters-in-law, Carol Crabb, Sharron Olberg, Bonnie Elseth, and Marilyn; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter Cindy Soland (2013) of Rockford; and brother Elmer Mann of Colorado.
