Erskine - Ruth Christine (Goethe) Schmitz, 94, died Sunday, Aug. 25, 2013.
Ruth Christine Goethe, the daughter of Lydia and Henning Goethe, was born on Nov. 21, 1918 in Thief River Falls. Ruth graduated from Lincoln High School in 1935 and upon her graduation, moved to Inglewood, Calif., where she worked at North American Aircraft.
On May 13, 1943, she was married to Frank Schmitz in Pacific Grove, Calif. They moved to Thief River Falls after Frank was discharged from the Army. Ruth worked at Gamble Robinson, JC Penney and Arctic Cat until her retirement in 1980. Frank and Ruth lived in Mesa, Ariz., during the winter and at their cabin on Union Lake in the summer. In 2000, Frank passed away and Ruth continued on in Arizona and Minnesota until 2006, when she moved back to Minnesota and lived at Copperfield Hill in Robbinsdale.
On April 1, 2013, Ruth moved to Pioneer Care Center in Erskine.
Ruth is survived by her children, Lynette (Mike) Schaitberger of Edina and Renei (Patrick) Larson of Fridley; grandchildren: Ruthie (James) McGrath, Tim Schaitberger, Michelle (Scott) Counihan, Tina (Jeff) Seberg; great-grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor and Ryan Counihan; and Elizabeth Seberg.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents Lydia and Henning Goethe; and brothers Herbert and Lawrence.
