Newfolden - Duane Laidley, 71, Newfolden, died Monday Aug. 26, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Nursing Home, Erskine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 30 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Interment will be held at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, rural Newfolden.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Thursday, Aug. 29 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls.
Duane William Laidley was born at home on the family farm on Sept. 1, 1941 in McCrea Township, Marshall County, the son of Roy William and Sophia (Metheny) Laidley. When Duane was about five years old, the family moved to a farm in New Solum Township near Newfolden. He attended country school about one mile from his home and also attended Newfolden High School.
Following school, Duane stayed to help on the family farm. He later worked at King Of Spuds in Grand Forks, N.D., and worked at Peterson-Biddick in Thief River Falls. On April 17, 1965, Duane was united in marriage to Frances Elaine Carlson at her parent’s home in Badger. They made their home on the Laidley family farm in rural Newfolden, and to this union, five children were born, Bradley, Michelle, Mark, Kevin and Kent.
Duane started working on the assembly line at Arctic Cat in 1965 and worked there until the early 1980s. He then went to work in the potato fields near Argyle, where he worked until going back to Artco in 1983. Duane worked on the assembly line, later he worked in pre-assembly and ended his career as a welder’s helper in 2005.
Duane enjoyed farming, deer hunting, playing cards, raising cattle and small grains, snowmobiling, his dogs, and especially spending time with his children and grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving children, Brad (Karla) Laidley of Thief River Falls, Michelle (Ray) Corbet, Mark Laidley, Kevin Laidley and Kent Laidley all of Newfolden; grandchildren, Keenan, Mason, Jessica, Amber, Hollie, Desarae, Paige, and Allison; great-grandchildren, Ezra, Regan, Ethan, Bryan, Madyson, Gretchen, Levi and Aurie; siblings, Maxine (LaVerne) Filpula of Thief River Falls and Beverly Kezar of Minneapolis; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Frances on Sept. 30, 2012; parents; and siblings, Betty Lou (Bill) Koebernick and Maynard (Beatrice) Laidley.
