Red Lake Falls - Larry Weiss, 66, of Red Lake Falls, died on Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at Riverview Hospital in Crookston.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Aug. 6 at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls, with Reverend John Bumgardner officiating. Honorary casket bearers included Barb and Jenny Weiss, Roseann Eckstein and family. Casketbearers included Arlan Weiss, Lyndon Schultz, Jeff Weiss, Nathan Weiss, Larry Eckstein Jr., and Gary Weiss. Interment was held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Wylie.
Larry Allan Weiss was born Jan. 30, 1947 in Red Lake Falls, the son of the Late Clarence and Viola (Weiss) Iverson. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls. Larry was raised on the home farm in Red Lake Falls Township by his uncles George, Raymond and August. He attended school in Red Lake Falls.
Following his education, Larry worked on the family farm. In 1971, he was united in marriage to Alice Jelle at Red Lake Falls. Larry lived his entire life in the Red Lake Falls area working at Arctic Cat, Dee Inc. and American Crystal from which he retired in 2009. Following his retirement Larry worked for area farmers.
He enjoyed 4-wheeling putting many miles on every year, snowmobiling and horses. He had a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back to help anyone. He also loved to spend time with family and kids. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Red Lake Falls.
He is survived by his children, Roseann (Larry Jr.) Eckstein of Red Lake Falls, Jerry Johnson of Red Lake Falls, and Dennis (Eileen) Johnson of Glindon; grandchildren, Ashley (Aaron Derosier), Courtney, Brandon, Danielle and Hayley Eckstein, and Justin, Luke, Shawn, and Chad Johnson; great-grandchild, Lincoln Derosier; sisters, Sandra (Lee) Hassett of Buxton, N.D. and Harriet (Gerald) Anderson of Fordville, N.D.; aunts, Lillian Barry of Thief River Falls, and Lou Ann Weiss of Crookston; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents, along with many aunts, uncles, and loved ones.
