Thief River Falls - Mary Lian, 77, Thief River Falls, formerly of Grygla, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2013 at the Karlstad Health Care Center in Karlstad.
Visitation will be held from 10 to noon on Wednesday, Aug. 7 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Casketbearers include Anthony McKee, Noe (Hugo) Toscano, Cory Crane, Darryl (Moose) Jones, Tyran Jones and Keith Lian. Interment will follow at the Valle Cemetery, rural Grygla.
Mary Juliet (Finnerud) Lian was born on Oct. 26, 1935 at home in rural Grygla, the daughter of Henry and Josie (Jorgenson) Finnerud. She attended Goodridge High School, graduating in 1954.
Following high school, Mary moved to Minneapolis to work for Northrup King Seed Company.
On Sept. 4, 1955, Mary was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Erling Lian, in Minneapolis.  They made their home in Minneapolis until 1970, when they moved to California with their family of five children.  In the fall of 1989, Mary and Erling moved to Thief River Falls where they have since resided.
Over the years, Mary worked various jobs in the shipping industry and as a department manager at Ivers Department Store in California.
Mary liked to spend time reading, playing Scrabble and word puzzles, camping, gardening, watching soap operas, collecting cookbooks and making wonderful meals for her family. Most of all Mary loved taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and spending time with her family.
Mary is survived by her husband, Erling of Thief River Falls; children, Richard Lian of Holt, Darrell (Deborah) Lian of Seattle, Wash., Marilyn McKee of Thief River Falls, Scott (Mary-Beth) Lian of Palmdale, Calif., Mike Lian of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, John Lian of Southern California, Cassidy Lian of St. Hilaire, Emilie (Steve) Rons of Simi Valley, Calif., Roxanne Lian of Seattle, Wash., Crystal McKee of Thief River Falls, Melissa McKee of Red Lake Falls, Joshua Lian of California, Megan Lian of California; great-grandchildren, Brody, Lily, Chloe, Rylie, Anthony, Chloe, Avery, Amaya, Mary Jane, and Skylar; sister. Grace Littlefield of Thief River Falls; several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Preceding her in death were her parents; grandson, Jesse Lian and brothers, Willard and Harvey Finnerud.
