Erskine - Rueben Benitt, 94 Erskine, formerly of Holt,  died on Sunday, July 7, 2013 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 16, at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, with Rev. Del Moen officiating. Casket bearers include Rueben’s grandchildren. Interment will follow at the Holt Cemetery in Holt.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m., with a 7 p.m. prayer service on Monday, July 15 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will also be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday at Nazareth Lutheran Church.
Rueben John Benitt was born on March 22, 1919 to John and Anna (Holst) Benitt at his home near Holt, in Marshall County. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. He attended the Sunnyside School.
Rueben entered into service with the United States Army in October 1944. He proudly served his country and was stationed in the Phillipines and Japan until his honorable discharge in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Dolores Vivian Larson on June 9, 1947 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They made their home north of Holt and lived there until October 2009, when they moved into Greenleaf Assisted Living in Thief River Falls. Dolores passed away June 11, 2010. Reuben moved to the Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine in February 2013.
Rueben spent his entire life farming near Holt. He also worked for many years at John Deere as a mechanic. He was a member of Nazareth Lutheran Church and served on the church council there. Rueben was also a member of the Eagles club. After he retired, he enjoyed gardening and working with flowers. Dolores and Rueben loved to go dancing. He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and every moment he got to spend with them. They always brought a smile to his face when he saw them or heard stories about them.
Rueben is survived by his children: Roger (Karen) Benitt, Holt, Becky (Rodney) Lund, Erskine; grandchildren: Kent (Lori) Benitt, Warren, John (Farrah) Benitt, Holt, Trevor (Tamara) Benitt, Warren, Jennifer (Eric) Welin, Argyle, Teresa (Jonathan) Hopke, New Prague, Amy (Milt) Green, Apple Valley,  Katrina (Lance) Hapka, Argyle, Kristina (Steve) Wiseth, Thief River Falls; great-grandchildren: Jocelynn and Carsten Benitt, Darby, Brynn, and Baby Benitt (due July 12), Wyatt and Lane Welin, Kyan, Brexten, Taya, and Vivia Hopke, Treyson, Damon and Briel Green, Luke and Baby Hapka (due in October 2013), and Kylee DeFrang; sister: JoAnn Larson, Thief River Falls; sisters-in-law, Carol and Aileen Benitt; brother-in-law, Donald Larson, Holt; several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Dolores; his parents; granddaughter, Tabitha Nelson; great-grandson, Daylon Green; great-granddaughter Whitney Welin; sister, Elda Knutson; brothers, Orvus and Elroy Benitt.
