Billings, Mont. - Geneva L. Larson (Rodgers), 101, died Friday, June 14, 2013.
Memorial services will be 1p.m. Friday, June 28, at Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary. Burial will be at Parshall, N.D., next to her husband Melvin.
Geneva was born July 21, 1911, in Blabon, N.D. At the age of 2, she and her parents moved to Wabek, N.D., in Mountrail County, where her parents, Joseph and Gunhild Rodgers, claimed their homestead.
Geneva attended grade school in Wabek and graduated in 1929 from Plaza High School. She then attended Minot State College and then taught school in southwestern North Dakota until 1931.
Geneva married Melvin Larson on June 26, 1932. They resided in Parshall, N.D., until 1936, when they moved to Thief River Falls, where Melvin was employed at Wennberg's Welding. Melvin passed away in 1968.
Geneva worked as a waitress at the Rex Cafe until her retirement in 1981 at age 70.
She then moved to Rapid City, S.D., where she resided until October 2001. She then moved to Billings to be near family and resided at South Forty until March of 2013, when she moved to the Cottages at St. John's.
Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; brother James; grandchildren Stephanie and Sara Redinbaugh, Thomas Jahr and Justin Larson. She is survived by her children, Janice Jahr (Carl) and Larry Larson (Kazuyo); six grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staffs at Moorberg and Hansen Cottages at St. John’s and the residents and staff of South Forty. Memorials can be given to St. John’s Cottages or a charity of choice.
