Roosevelt - Ole Johnson, 85, of Roosevelt, died at his home early Friday morning, June 7, 2013.
Funeral services are scheduled for Thursday, June 13 at 4 p.m. at Lancaster Covenant Church, Lancaster. Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Hallock. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service, with Rev. Galen Nordin, presiding. Casket bearers will be Ole’s grandsons.
Ole James Johnson was born in Lancaster on Aug. 2, 1927 to Ole and Jenny (Williamson) Johnson. He attended country school near Lancaster and served with the U.S. Army. On April 16, 1955 he was united in marriage to Gladys Foster in Hallock.
They lived in Lancaster and Thief River Falls, before moving to Strandquist. Ole did plumbing and heating work for many years, working at Lee Plumbing in Thief River Falls for over 26 years and out of Union 126 in Detroit Lakes, for 22 years.
Ole was proud of the work he did in the construction of the Strandquist School and the Hallock Hospital. He retired in his early 60s because of failing health. Ole enjoyed fishing in Alaska and on Lake of the Woods as well as hunting. He was a member of the Eagles and a life member of the American Legion. Gladys died on Jan. 30, 2006. Ole resided in Roosevelt for the past six years.
He is survived by children, Michael (Leone) Johnson, Strandquist, Bruce (Marion) Johnson, Strandquist, Christy (Lester) Stensrud, Karlstad, and Holly (Leonard) Hoy, Roosevelt; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; brothers, Raymond Johnson, Strandquist, Ted (Alma) Johnson, Thief River Falls, and Marvin Johnson, Swenson, Ore.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Gladys; brothers, Ernest, Vance and Vince; and sisters, Myrtle, Annie and Edna.
The Austin Funeral Home of Hallock is in charge of arrangements.
