Plummer - Delano Halvorson, 79, Plummer, died on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 13 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Plummer, with Rev. Jonathan Dodson officiating.   Casket bearers included Roger Gallant, John Rosten, Derek Gustafson, Jessica Fernholz, Nicholas Fernholz, Terry Thomson, Larry Rohlf and Merle Jesme. Military honors were  provided by the Plummer American Legion Post 623. Interment was held at Clearwater Cemetery, rural Plumme. Military honors were provided by the Plummer American Legion Post 623.
Delano Franklin Halvorson was born on Nov. 23, 1933 in Emardville Township, rural Red Lake County, the son of Edward and Lillie (Milligan) Halvorson.  He was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian faith and attended school in Plummer.
Delano entered into service with the United States Army in 1954. He was stationed overseas in Stuttgart, Germany and was Honorably Discharged in 1956 as an SP 4.
Following his discharge, Delano returned to work in western North Dakota putting power lines into the oil fields.
On Jan. 20, 1973, Delano was united in marriage to Lee Thomson Zimpel in Plummer, at the Brooks-Plummer Presbyterian Church. They made their home on a farm in Emardville Township, rural Plummer. Together, along with their daughter Sandy, they raised beef cows and eventually had a dairy farm.  In 1989, they moved into Plummer where they have continued to reside.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, going to the casino, playing and calling bingo at the Legion and playing cards with friends.  Delano was an active member of Ducks Unlimited, American Legion Post, Plummer Lions Club and the Plummer Sportsman’s Club.  
Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Lee of Plummer; daughter, Sandra (Larry) Rohlf of Thief River Falls; grandchildren, Derek Gustafson of St. Louis Park, Jessica (Nicholas) Fernholz of Fargo, N.D., and Lucas Rohlf of Portland OR; and many other relatives and friends.
Delano is preceded in death by his parents.
