Holt - Gordon Larson, 76, Holt, died on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 at Oakland Park Communities in Thief River Falls, surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 6 at Nazareth Lutheran Church in Holt, with Rev. Del Moen officiating. Casket bearers included Lucas Larson, John Helgenset, Jeremy Larson, Dave Rux, Mark Larson, James Larson and Allen Larson. Interment was held at the Holt Cemetery.
Gordon David Larson was born on March 13, 1937 at home on the farm near Holt, the son of Irvin and Donella (Taylor) Larson. He was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith. Gordon attended country school and graduated from Newfolden High School in 1955.
Following high school, Gordon worked for his dad at the elevator in Strandquist. He then went to work near Grafton, N.D., for Rutherford Farms during the potato harvest and also for Finley Johnson doing farm work and potatoes near Nash, N.D. He also worked at Arctic Cat in Thief River Falls, the elevator in Newfolden, and most recently worked at Polaris in Roseau.
On Aug. 7, 1971, Gordon was united in marriage to Rheta Helgenset at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. They made their home on the Larson family farm in Holt Township, and to this union two children were born: Lisa and Lucas.
Gordon enjoyed playing softball, bowling, hunting, fishing, “going for a ride”, spending time with his family and friends; and was lovingly known as “Gordie Good Guy.”
Survivors include his daughter, Lisa (Joe) Holten of Nampa, Idaho, and Lucas Larson of Robbinsdale; two granddaughters, Masen and Claire; siblings, Margery (Jim) O’Brien of Woodbury, Roger (Judy) Larson of Strandquist, and Donna Larson of Thief River Falls; sister-in-law, Dorothy “Dottie” Larson of Elk River; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Gordon was preceded in death by his wife, Rheta on Jan. 3, 2011; his parents; and brother, Vernon Larson.
