Stephen - Pearl Smidt, 92, of Stephen,  died Friday, April 26, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held Thursday, May 2at First Lutheran Church in Stephen, with Rev. Michael Schendel, presiding.  Interment was held at the Stephen City Cemetery.  Casket bearers included Glenn Smidt, Milton Smidt, Virgil Erickson, Maynard Peterson, Jared Woinar­owicz and Lon Woinarowicz.
Pearl Elvera Olson was born Feb. 4, 1921 to Christ and Anna (Bergman) Olson at the family home in Stephen. Pearl was a 1938 graduate of Stephen High School and worked as a telephone operator in Stephen.
On Dec. 31, 1941 she was united in marriage to Albert Smidt in Stephen.  The couple farmed until their retirement in 1981.  Pearl had many interests; she enjoyed baking, crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilt making and had a variety of projects going at any given time.
She especially loved spending time with family and friends and enjoyed spring and summer when she could be outside working in numerous flower beds and gardening. Pearl was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Home­makers Club, Garden Glub, First Lutheran Church Circle, Quilting Club and the Old Home Town Museum. In 1993, Pearl and Albert were named Stephen Outstanding Senior Citizens. Albert died Jan. 7, 2007.
She is survived by sons, James (Ann) Smidt, Alexandria, and Roger (Jane) Smidt, Zanesville Ohio; grandchildren, Patricia (Larry Ohren) Smidt, Thief River Falls, Greg (Shannon) Smidt, East Grand Forks, Janelle (Patrick) Duncan, Ashland, Mo., and Jill (Ole) Nettestad,
Sartell; a step-grandson, John (Nikki) Johnson; seven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Albert; son and daughter-in-law, Rodney and Marilyn Smidt;  two brothers, four sisters, a niece and two nephews.
