Peggy May Bjerke was born on May 9, 1963 in Thief River Falls. Mother of Jordan Duane Bjerke, Shyenne White, Cameron James Hillston White and infant daughter, Raya; daughter of Duane and Arlene Bjerke.
Peggy never found her “one true job” but was always looking for it. Her most recent job was cafeteria worker at Challenger Elementary and manager at the Dollar Tree Store. She also had numerous jobs that spanned from Thief River Falls, Grand Forks and East Grand Forks. But what she enjoyed the most was loving her kids. They brought her much joy and comfort. That was the one job Peggy never wavered from and “mother” to a lot of Jordan’s friends.
Peggy’s hobbies were watching Cameron swim for the Prowlers – she tried to be at every meet. She loved watching Jordan demo and with Shyenne her “girly-girl.” She enjoyed doing their nails and shopping, making lefse, with her mother and sisters, camping and fishing with her family. She was instrumental in helping her dad fight his cancer for the last three years. She enjoyed traveling to California to visit her brother and sister-in-law and Las Vegas last year with her sisters and mom. Peggy also enjoyed making quilts, shopping for the “perfect” gift, reading, teasing her nephews and was an avid supporter of the relay for life in Grand Forks and Thief River Falls.
She was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Peggy attended school in Rockford, graduated from Lincoln High School in 1981 in Thief River Falls and attended the AVTI in Thief River Falls and East Grand Forks.
She is survived by her children, Jordan Bjerke, Shyenne and Cameron White, all of Thief River Falls; stepson, Jonathan (Hilary) Gurno of Red Lake; parents, Duane and Arlene (Lappegaard) Bjerke; brother, Jerrold (Kimberly) Bjerke of Coronado, Calif.; sisters, Penny (Ryan) Brang of Thief River Falls, Patty (John) Forsberg of Bemidji, and companion, Fredrick White of Red Lake; nephews, Matthew and Andrew Brang of Thief River Falls, Mikel and David Forsberg of Bemidji, Thomas Bjerke of Sapula, Okla.; nieces, Carolyn Stothers of Cape Coral, Fla., Kyrsten Kirk of Clarksville, Tenn., and Tiffany McKittrick of Eden Prairie; and grandfather, Dewein Lappegaard of Goodridge; and many aunts, uncles, relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by infant daughter, Raya White; grandparents, Minnie and J.H. (Hanford) Bjerke; grandmother, Alice Lappegaard; aunt and uncle, Pat and Wally Heaton; uncles, Danny Lappegaard and Jerome Lappegaard, aunt and uncle, Mary Ann and Greg Wier; cousins, Rick Heaton and Rodney Heaton; and twin cousins, Suzanne and Roxanne Vigstol.
Peggy lost her long battle with cancer and the family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support through the past 10 years, especially the last 3. A special thank you to Dr. Walsh and all the staff at the Cancer Center in Grand Forks, N.D.
