Arnold Obert Englund was born Aug. 11, 1936 at his rural home near Goodridge, son of the late Swan Peter and Olga Mary (Wolden) Englund. He attended rural school at Spruce Grove School and Grande Corner School and a time at the Grygla High School.
The family moved to the current homestead East of Grygla. Following his education he worked on the home farm for a couple of years. He then worked for a farmer near Crookston for a couple years. He cut wood for Gladen Northeast of Fourtown, then moved to the Northwest Angle and cut wood for Norman Carlson and also for Ernie Carpenter. He did this for a number of years in the winter and summers were spent working for the Keene farm.
Arnold purchased his own farm near Grygla. He also worked for Delwood Larson building steel bins and buildings. He also farmed and raised cattle for himself for a few years. He also owned and operated his own Steel Bin business. He purchased a saw mill from Bill Ahola in the early 1970’s; he sold that mill and purchased an updated one from Sherwin Sax. He logged and cut his own lumber for many years.
Arnie loved animals especially dogs. He loved trapping all his life and you would never know where you would meet up with him. He taught both his nephews Michael and Robert how to trap, and they spent many miles traveling the trap line on foot. He was also a scrap iron man and people would stop by to get parts off his junked cars. He also liked collecting antiques and going to rummage sales with his special friend, Shirley. Arnie also enjoyed his morning trip to have breakfast in Fourtown.
Arnie is survived by siblings Mae Martin of Pine City; Gladys McCormack of Thief River Falls; Melvin (Polly) Englund of Grygla; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Emmy Englund, Elmer Englund, Carl Englund, August Englund, Ella Englund, Eileen Koerner and special friend Shirley Peterson.
