Newfolden - Leanna Bengtson, 62, of Newfolden, died Saturday, April 6, 2013 at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks, N.D., in the presence of her loving family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Newfolden. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Newfolden.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral service at the church on Wednesday.
Leanna Lynn (Sather) Bengtson was born on Aug. 8, 1950 in Thief River Falls, the daughter of William and Gladys (Swanson) Sather. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Newfolden.
Leanna attended school in Newfolden, graduating in 1968 and received her Associates Degree in Business from Northland Community College in Thief River Falls.
On April 19, 1969 Leanna was united in marriage to Lloyd Bengtson. Leanna and Lloyd lived in Bemidji and Thief River Falls before making their home on the Bengtson Family Farm near Newfolden. There they raised their children, Brian and Denae. Leanna was considered a mother by all family members and many others as she operated a home daycare for many years.
Leanna enjoyed making crafts and owned and operated her own business “The Main House.” She was currently employed by the Greater Minnesota Housing Authority in management, working throughout Northwestern Minnesota and primarily in the Warren and Roseau areas. Leanna was also the secretary for Bethlehem Church.
Leanna’s favorite pastimes included reading, and gardening. She was always willing to lend a helping hand, never turning anyone down. Leanna had a heart of gold, always concerned with the cares and interests of those around her. She was the rock that her family and friends could lean on. Always the center of any family gathering, Leanna was instrumental in organizing and hosting any event.
Leanna’s family will remember her as perfect, an angel, and the best wife, mother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Leanna is survived by her loving husband, Lloyd; children, Brian Bengtson of Newfolden, and Denae Bengtson (Cy Burrill) of Redmond, Wash.; sisters and brothers, William (Karen) Sather of Lakeville, Linda Culp of Hinckley, Gail Sather of Minnetonka, Kristi McMillan (David Anderson) of Durham, N.C., and Jon Sather of Farmington; brother-in-law, Vernon (Lois) Bengtson of Newfolden; sisters-in-law, Bernice Ueland, of Newfolden, Darlene Chapman of Newfolden, Sandra Bengtson of Middle River, and Marge Bengtson of Gary; aunt, Loretta Prenevost of Red Lake Falls; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
Leanna was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary Alby; nephew, Shane Alby; brothers-in-law, Leonard Bengtson, Arnold Bengtson, and David Culp; many aunts and uncles.
