Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Thief River Falls with Reverend John Voelker officiating.  Interment will be held at Greenwood Cemetery, Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, March 27 at Johnson Funeral Service, Thief River Falls and also one hour before the service at the church Thursday.
Judy was born in Steele County North Dakota to Knute and Gina (Smette) Groven.  She was the 12th of 13 children, of which only four brothers and four sisters grew to adulthood.  She was baptized in 1920 and confirmed in 1935 at Bang Church, rural Portland, N.D.  She was the last one to be confirmed in Norwegian.  She was a fighter and worked hard to accomplish what was important to her: she was the only one in the family to attend and graduate from high school in 1939 in Mayville, N.D., of which she was very proud.
On Oct. 1, 1939, she married Ellert Kjensrud at the Kjensrud farm, rural Portland, N.D. Judy and Ellert farmed in North Dakota for 17 years, moved to Clearbrook, where Ellert worked as a salesman and Judy was a CNA at the Nursing Home, a store clerk and helped out in the Newspaper office.
From there they moved to Thief River Falls where they owned their own Surge Milker business. They moved to Long Prairie, where Judy worked at Cathedral Press. When Ellert’s health began to fail, they moved back to Thief River Falls where he died in 1978.  Judy worked at Arctic Cat, the KMart Deli and Discovery Place.
In her lifetime, she has been a Sunday School teacher, member of the Ladies Aid in all churches attended, member of Homemakers, Golden Years, Heritage Center Choir and a long time member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
She loved to camp and travel, play cards with family and friends, bake and spend time with her family.   She loved birthdays, anniversaries and holidays when the family could be together. She was sponsors for many and took her responsibility in that very seriously and was concerned about their spiritual lives.
Judy and Harry Oen were married Oct. 19, 1985. They lived in apartments in Thief River Falls, moving to an Assisted Living in 2005.  Harry died in 2006. Judy continued to live at the Assisted Living until 2010 when she moved to a Nursing Home.
She was preceded in death by her parents,  her husband Ellert; second  husband Harry; six sisters, Helga, Tilda, Ida, Regina, Dagna, Julia; and six brothers, Henry, Carl, Ted, Oscar, Gustav and “Baby Boy,” one stepgrandson and one stepgranddaughter.
She is survived by her children, Richard (Pat) Kjensrud of Thief River Falls, Carol (Bob) Dahl of Newfolden, Christine (Marty) Howes of Delano; 10 grandchildren, Karen, Tim, Eric, Jeff, Brenda, Randy, Kelly, Marty, David and Jon; 25 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; four stepchildren, Gary (Jeanie) Oen, Julie (Dick) Kroening of Fosston,  Jan (Don)Thompson of Alamosa, Colo., and Jo (Wes) Carpenter of Plains, Mont.; nine stepgrandchildren; 10 step great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Judy suffered a stroke on March 13, 2013 and died March 22, 2013.  “Grandma Judy” will always be remembered by her “feistiness” and her great sense of humor!  She will be missed greatly by all her relatives and friends.
