Thief River Falls - Clarice Martinson, 90, Thief River Falls, died on Friday, March 1, 2013 at the Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 19, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls. Interment will be held at Landstad Cemetery, rural Thief River Falls.
Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
Clarice Alida Bertilrud was born on January 21, 1923 on her parents’ farm near Greenbush. She was the daughter of Gulbrand and Hilda (Foss) Bertilrud. Clarice attended school in Greenbush and then Aaker’s Business College in Bemidji.
During World War II, she was contracted as a secretary by the United States Navy in Washington, D.C. When the war ended she returned to Greenbush and was a bank teller when she met and married Rudy Martinson in 1947.
Clarice and Rudy farmed by Greenbush and then moved to Thief River Falls in 1963. They raised two children, Wayne and Jennifer, and were foster parents for several years. They had been married 55 years when Rudy passed away in 2002.
Clarice worked as a secretary for 10 years in Thief River Falls. She crafted several quilts, knitted many personal gifts and baked quite a few wedding and anniversary cakes for friends. Clarice was a perfectionist with all her handiwork. Also, she was the Bertilrud family historian of her generation.
Clarice is survived by brother Selvin (Minda) Bertilrud, N.D., son Wayne (Carole) Martinson, CA, daughter Jennifer (Greg) Martinson, N.D.; grandson Eric (Inga) Martinson and great-grandchildren, Anna and Nils Martinson of Kan., and by foster daughter Betty (Dennis) Erickson.
