Karlstad - Isaac Albert Thompson , 94, went home to heaven Monday, March 4, 2013; he passed away with family members around him.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, March 9 at the Assembly of God Church in Karlstad, with Pastor Richard Wadholm officiating. Interment was held at the Karlstad Cemetery in Karlstad.
Isaac Thompson was born July 29, 1918. He was an honest, family man and loved everyone. He was always ready and willing to help anyone in need. Every family person was special to him. He and his wife Betsy were married 70 years and 5 months. They lived on their farm, known to some as the “Square Farm”, since 1948. They purchased the farm from his uncles Tom and Andrew Thompson.
Isaac was an active member of the Karlstad Assembly of God and had served as a board member for 39 years and was secretary/treasurer for many of those years. He sincerely loved his church where he taught Sunday School, played his guitar, sang duets with Betsy, sang in cantatas, and would do anything else that was needed.
Isaac was a member of the Gideons for many years and spoke for them in many area churches. He was also faithful in giving out bibles to the fifth graders in area schools each year. He also traveled to Guatemala to help build churches in the mountainous regions of that country.
Isaac also served on the Heritage School Board. He was a member of the Strandquist School Board for 17 years during which time the old school burned and a new one had to be constructed which involved many late nights of meetings. He also helped develop and sell several county atlases.
Loving family members include wife, Betsy, Karlstad; sons, Richard (Carol), Red Lake Falls; Robert (Cathy), Strandquist; four grandchildren, Nicole (Kirk) Sampson, Hugo; Kari (Matt) Helgeson, Sioux Falls, S.D.; Andrew (Erin) Thompson, Hillsboro, ND; Lisa (Garrett) Leach, Sioux Falls, S.D.; eight great-grandchildren, Carter and Callie Sampson, Zachary and Brooklyn Helgeson, Isaac, twins Amelia and Ava Thompson, and new baby born March 5 to Lisa and Garrett named Emma. Isaac also is survived by four sisters, Myrtle, Hazel, Gloria and Geneva and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Barbara; one granddaughter, Amy; four sisters, Bertha, Dorothy, Mary and Elsie; four brothers, Peter, Walter, Ernest and Vernon.
Isaac will be missed by anyone who knew him. May his memory be blessed.
