Bemidji - Arthur “Mac” Augustas McLaughlin, 86, of Bemidji died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2013 at Havenwood Care Center in Bemidji.
Memorial services were held Friday, Feb. 22 at St. Philip’s Catholic Church in Bemidji with Fr. Don Braukmann officiating. Interment will be in the spring at the Holy Cross Cemetery in Bemidji under the direction of the Cease Family Funeral Home of Bemidji. Military honors will be provided by the American Legion Post 14 of Bemidji.
Mac was born May 30, 1926 in Hope, N.D., the son of Arthur B. and Mae (Hogan) McLaughlin. He was raised and educated in Thief River Falls, graduating from high school there in 1946. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1944– 1946, and was stationed in the Philippines on the USS Rigel.
He married Dorothy Mae Habedank on August 31, 1947 in Thief River Falls. Following his return to home, he began a 37-year career with Northwestern Bell. He started as a lineman and retired in 1983 in Bemidji as an equipment technician. He was a member of St. Philip’s Catholic Church. He enjoyed golfing and being outdoors. He was a resident of Havenwod Care Center since November.
He is survived by two daughters: Dianne Laughter of Tenino, Wash., Nancy (Don) Cardwell of Chanhassen; two sons: Arthur (Linda) C. McLaughlin of Yuma, Ariz., Les (Theresa) McLaughlin of Myakka City, Fla.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a brother; and four sisters.
