Jane Ethel Viola Ring was born on Sept. 15, 1919 in Alexandria, the daughter of Lars and Elvera (Lydeen) Ring. In 1932, the family moved to Mud Lake. In 1937, they moved to a farm north of Holt.
When Jane left the farm, she went to work at the Lars Furan’s Lefse Bakery in Thief River Falls. There, she met her future husband, Byron Sagmoen.
She later went to cosmetology school at Lee’s Beauty School of St. Paul. After graduating, she went to work for Violet Furans’s Beauty Shop in TRF. She later purchased the business and re-named it Jane’s Beauty Shop.
She was united in marriage to Byron Sagmoen on May 31, 1950. In around 1957, she re-opened Jane’s Beauty Shop out of their home, which she operated until she retired at the age of 80.
In December 2004, she and Byron went to live with their daughter, Jeneen and son-in-law Patrick. This move was due to Jane having health issues. Byron passed away in 2008, and she remained with her daughter until the time of her death.
Jane was a great cook, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, embroidery and spending time with, and caring for her family.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and a former assistant local Girl Scout Leader in Thief River Falls.
