Park Rapids - Jane Ethel Viola Sagmoen, 93, of Park Rapids,  formerly of Thief River Falls, died on Sunday, Feb. 24, 2013 at the home of her daughter and son-in-law.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be held for one hour prior to the services at the funeral home on Saturday.  Interment will be held at the Rindal Lutheran Cemetery at Viking. Friends may leave online condolences at Ceasefuneralhome.com.  Arrangements are being handled by the Cease Family Funeral Home of Park Rapids and the Johnson Funeral Service of Thief River Falls.
Jane Ethel Viola Ring was born on Sept. 15, 1919 in Alexandria, the daughter of Lars and Elvera (Lydeen) Ring. In 1932, the family moved to Mud Lake. In 1937, they moved  to a farm north of Holt.
When Jane left the farm, she went to work at the Lars Furan’s Lefse Bakery in Thief River Falls. There, she met her future husband, Byron Sagmoen.
She later went to cosmetology school at Lee’s Beauty School of St. Paul. After graduating, she went to work for Violet Furans’s Beauty Shop in TRF. She later purchased the business and re-named it Jane’s Beauty Shop.
She was united in marriage to Byron Sagmoen on May 31, 1950. In around 1957, she re-opened Jane’s Beauty Shop out of their home, which she operated until she retired at the age of 80.
In December 2004, she and Byron went to live with their daughter, Jeneen and son-in-law Patrick. This move was due to Jane having health issues.  Byron passed away in 2008, and she remained with her daughter until the time of her death.
Jane was a great cook, she enjoyed gardening, fishing, reading, embroidery and spending time with, and caring for her family.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Thief River Falls and a former assistant local Girl Scout Leader in Thief River Falls.
She is survived by her daughter – Jeneen B. (Patrick) Klein of Park Rapids;  two grandsons, Christopher (Marinda) Klein of Park Rapids and Nicholas (Amy Shilson) Klein of Park Rapids; great-grandchildren, Katelyn, Keagan and Kenton Klein; brother-in-law,  Walter Chilstrom of Silver Bay;   foster sisters, Kathy (Ray) Wagner of Thief River Falls; Dianne Czerwan of Mukiwanago, Wis.;  two foster nephews and two foster nieces.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Lawrence (Genevieve) Ring; her spouse, Byron Sagmoen; brother-in-law, Bartlett Sagmoen; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Borden and Edna Sagmoen; sister-in-law, VanDella Chilstrom; and her foster niece Lorag Wagner.
