Thief River Falls - Gladys Holmstrom, 96, Thief River Falls, died on Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2013 at Thief River Care Center in Thief River Falls.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Feb. 19 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls, with Rev. Ale Tulu officiating. Interment was held at the Marmrelund Cemetery in Strandquist.
Gladys Myrtle Holmstrom was born Nov. 9, 1916, daughter of the late Theodore and Carrie Knutson at Saum. She attended rural school at Saum and later attended school in Kelliher. She left home at the age of 13 and began working in homes as a housekeeper.
On Nov. 26, 1935 she was united in marriage to Ernest Leonard Holmstrom at Strandquist. The couple made their home at Strandquist, she worked various jobs until Arctic Cat started in Thief River Falls where she worked until her retirement. The couple moved into Thief River Falls in 1962. Ernest passed away July 8, 1996 and Gladys continued to live in her home until a year ago when she entered the Thief River Care Center. Gladys enjoyed fishing, camping, was a great baker and enjoyed feeding people and working on puzzles in the paper and playing cards and going to the casino.
She is survived by her daughter Shirley Johnson of Thief River Falls; son Ron (Fiance Shirley Braeger) Holmstrom of Thief River Falls; numerous nieces and nephews.
Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Ernest; son-in-law Darrell Johnson; brothers and sisters Elling Knutson, Arthur Knutson, Alice Lattman, Guy Knutson, Mildred Dahl, Fred Knutson and Grace Quamme.
