Brainerd - Cora Adeline Fischer, 99, of Brainerd passed away on Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Bethany Good Samaritan Care Center.
Funeral Services for Cora were held Monday, Jan. 28 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Interment was held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens.
Cora was born on May 18, 1913 in Watson, Saskatchewan, Canada to Adolph and Bergetta (Hjelle) Elseth. When Cora was 2 years old, the family moved to Newfolden, where Cora graduated from High School in 1931.
She married Ralph Fischer on December 29, 1935, whom she met while working in Thief River Falls. While living in Thief River Falls, much of Cora's energy was devoted to volunteer activities with Zion Lutheran Church and being a Den Mother for the scouting program.
After Cora, Ralph and sons moved to Brainerd in 1957, the family became active in Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She subsequently worked as the church secretary at Bethlehem Lutheran Church for a number of years.
She was devoted to her family, enjoyed flower gardening, baking and was a voracious reader. In later years, her weekly breakfast group, informally known to friends as the “Laughing Lutherans,” was one of the important facets of her life.
Cora will be missed by her sons; David (Marie McKay) of Crosslake and Stephen (Karla Holmquist) of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; grandchildren: Alise (Robert Quinlan) of Longwood, Fla., Craig, of Las Vegas, Nev., Eric, of Padenghe sul Garda, Italy, Kimberly (Theron Lampe) Holmquist-Fischer of Edina, and great-grandchild, Addyson Lampe.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; and all six of her siblings.
Memorials would be preferred to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Endowment Fund or a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements were with Halvorson-Johnson Funeral and Cremation Care of Brainerd.
