Newfolden - Norma Helm, 68, Newfolden, died suddenly on Tuesday, Jan. 8, 2013 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Norma Helm was held Monday, Jan. 14, at New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden, with Pastor Ollie Urdahl officiating. Casket bearers included Keaton Laymon, Colton Laymon, Jesse Helm, Travis Moen, Dustin Helm, Mark Filipi, Andy Helm, Cody Moen, Keegan Moen and Chad Nelson. Honorary casket bearers included all of Norma’s friends at New Hope Lutheran Church. Interment was held at Bethlehem Cemetery, New Solum Township, Marshall County.
Norma Irene Filipi was born in Crookston, on April 3, 1944, the daughter of Elmer B. and Henrietta (Kliner) Filipi. She was raised on the family farm near Tabor and attended country school near Tabor and graduated from NWSA at Crookston in March of 1962.  
On Oct. 27, 1962, Norma was united in marriage to Dennis Helm in Tabor. They made their home on a farm near Angus, and at this time they were blessed with a daughter, Denise. In 1968, they moved to the Newfolden area and in 1971, they purchased a farm in West Valley Township, Marshall County. While living here, they were blessed with a son, Terry. Together, they continued to raise their family and enjoy their years on the farm.
She worked at the nursing homes in Warren, Thief River Falls and Karlstad.  Norma also worked at Rose’s Café in Newfolden; and worked at Arctic Cat in the sewing department for many years. She was very interested in crocheting, sewing, quilt making, and she really enjoyed her grandchildren.  Norma enjoyed attending and being part of New Hope Lutheran Church in Newfolden and traveling with Dennis and Bill Helm and their band.
Survivors include her loving husband of 50 years, Dennis of Newfolden; daughter, Denise (Brian) Laymon and grandsons, Keaton and Colton, all of Warren; son, Terry (Heather) Helm and grandson, Bridger and granddaughter, Hailie stationed in Germany; Norma’s brothers and sisters are Tony and Jeanette Filipi, Yvonne and LeRoy Vonasek, Jane and Pat Novak, Aldon and Janice Filipi, Lana and Gary Corwin, Lance Filipi and Lois Filipi; and many other relatives and all of Dennis’s family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Henrietta Filipi; and Dennis’ parents, Lloyd and Esther Helm.
