LaPorte - Donald Lyle Braaten, 72, LaPorte, formerly of Thief River Falls, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2012 in LaPorte.
The funeral for Donald Lyle Braaten was held Monday, Jan. 7 at the Stenshoel-Houske Funeral Home, Crookston. Interment was held at the Oakdale Cemetery, Crookston.
Donald was born on July 31, 1940 in McVille, N.D., son of Theodore and Cleo Braaten. He grew up at Tolna, N.D., and attended schools there and in McVille.
He served in the US Army in Maine and in Korea, following the Korean Conflict. He worked at Campbell Farms in Grand Forks, a turkey farm at Staples, and then with JR Simplot as a mechanic. He lived in Wadena, East Grand Forks and then Crookston, before moving to Thief River Falls, where he spent four years and then to LaPorte, where he has lived the past six years.
He is survived by: his significant other: Lois Raymond; three daughters: Mavis Braaten of Crookston, Dorie Anderson of Fisher, Teresa Braaten of Crookston; four grandchildren: Shane, Shawna and Amanda Goulet, and Michael Anderson; three great-grandchildren: Ethan Boe, Madison Vanyo and Kira Gatica; siblings: Judy Kirchoffner of Grand Forks, N.D., Loretta Gothberg of Grand Forks, N.D., Sharon Eaves of Cando, Linda Duray in Arizona, Vicky Seaberg of Cando, Beverly Egstad of Grand Forks, N.D., Larry Braaten of Cando, Dennis Braaten of Baudette, Thomas Braaten of Grand Forks, N.D., Betty Fontaine of Grand Forks, N.D., Barbara Fiesx in Arizona and Douglas Braaten of Cando.
He was preceded in death by his parents: Ted and Cleo Braaten; sister: Sonia Johnson and granddaughter: Lorie Goulet.
