Chisholm - Evert Rangvald Westberg, 98, formerly of Thief River Falls and Gatzke, died at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in  Chisholm on Thursday, Dec. 20, 2012.
Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 28 at United Lutheran Church in Gatzke, with Pastor Vicki Saude officiating. Interment was held at Moose River Cemetery, Gatzke.
Evert Rangvald Westberg, the son of the late Peter and Anna (Lund) Westberg, was born on May 24, 1914, in Linsell Township of Marshall County, near Gatzke. He attended Elm Park School and completed the eighth grade. Evert and his family farmed on Randeen Ridge until February 1939, when he married Anna Dahl in Middle River. In 1941, Evert and Anna bought a farm near Gatzke. By this time, they had two sons: Duane and Darell.
In 1953, Evert moved the family to Hibbing where he worked in the iron ore mines until retirement in 1976.  While in Hibbing, his family increased by a son, Dayle and daughter, Dianne.  After retirement, Evert and Anna moved back to their farm near Gatzke where he enjoyed farming and using his backhoe.
The couple resided in Thief River Falls, Grygla and Hibbing after selling their farm in Rollis Township to Donavon and Laura Dahl. Anna passed away Jan. 30, 2005. Evert enjoyed working with his hands. He built a threshing machine for garden peas and also built a couple of boats, one a sail boat he named Snow White. Another project Evert enjoyed working on was a steam engine. This was a model of a steam engine that powered threshing machines when he was a young man.
He was interested in anything mechanical and was called upon for help with Wisconsin Engines.
He is survived by two sons: Duane, of St. Cloud and Dayle (Janice), of Shingletown, Calif.;  daughter: Dianne (Gary) Koski, of Side Lake; 11 grandchildren;  26 great-grandchildren;  one brother: Robert, of Washington; in addition to several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Evert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; son: Darell in 2001; brothers: Einar and Leonard; and sisters: Elsie and Linnea.      A00003B2013JA02
