Thief River Falls - Mary Ann Schindler, 84, of Thief River Falls, died on Sunday, Dec. 23, 2012 at Sanford Medical Center in Thief River Falls, surrounded by her husband and children.
Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, Dec. 29 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Thief River Falls, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Casket bearers included Nicholas Schindler, Michael Dunne, Cody Schindler, Duane Rickaby, Josh Rademacher and David Lee. Honorary casket bearers included all of MaryAnn’s quilting friends. Interment was held at St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Mary Ann Schindler was born Dec. 2, 1928 in Red Lake Falls, the daughter of Hubert and Ann (Kees) Linnertz. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls, and attended St. Joseph Catholic School, graduating from Lafayette High School in Red Lake Falls.
Mary Ann was united in marriage to Ray Schindler on June 12, 1951 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Red Lake Falls. The couple farmed and Mary Ann enjoyed being a housewife and raising her family. In 1954, they purchased a farm in Thief River Falls and resided there until November 2012.
She enjoyed making quilts, gardening, canning, berry picking and making jams. She also loved playing piano, playing cards and visiting with family and friends. Mary Ann was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church and the Women’s Guild, and Homemaker Hazelnut Group. Mary Ann was one of the first 100 recipients of a Cochlear implant at the U of M. Mary Ann was a pioneer and strong advocate of the Cochlear Education and awareness programs, supported and sponsored through her Lions Club membership.
Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Raymond of Thief River Falls; six children: Don Schindler of Thief River Falls, Theresa Olson of Fargo, N.D., Bob Schindler of Thief River Falls, Dale (Stephanie) Schindler of Lake Park, Marlys (Shawn) (Schindler) Dunne of Lindstrom, and Brian (Jill Stenberg) Schindler of Thief River Falls; 11 grandchildren: Jennifer (Blazejewski) (Josh) Rademacher, Jenessa (Josh Wiewek) Blazejewski, Julie (Jeff Beving) Blazejewski, Cody (Amber) Schindler, McKayla Schindler, Savanah and Sophia Schindler, Michael and David Dunne, Nicholas and Jadyn Schindler; two great-grandchildren: Barrett Rademacher (Jennifer and Josh Rademacher) and Cayda Schindler (Cody and Amber Schindler); brother, Don (Theresa) Linnertz of Grand Forks, N.D., and sister, Louise Lessard of Plummer; step-grandchildren: Shane Cullen, Krystle (Grant) Meyer, Justin Sundrall and Cody Stenberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lucille Jones; grandparents; and an infant granddaughter, Sarah.
