St. Paul - Patricia Ann Rustad, 68, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 at the Episcopal Church Home in St. Paul, where she had resided since 2005. Until then, she was a lifelong resident of Thief River Falls.
A memorial service for Patricia Rustad was held in the Leigh Chapel at the Episcopal Church Home on Oct. 11, officiated by Chaplain Kay Provine, Patricia’s pastor and friend.
Patricia was born on Dec. 23, 1943, to parents, Loyd and Ila (Samuelson) Rustad. She attended Knox Elementary School. She made a remarkable recovery from brain cancer surgery and radiation when she was 8 years old and not expected to live.
She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1962. Patricia was employed at the local public library for more than twenty years. By the time she ended her career there, she knew the location of every book in the collection and could greet most of the patrons by name. She especially enjoyed being “Miss Pat” of Story Hour for young children.
She had a gift for interacting with children and is the source of many happy memories for her nephew and nieces of treasure hunts, games, bicycling, and many other treats and special activities.
She is survived by her sisters, Marnie (Ron) Severson, St Paul and Virginia (Wayne) Hanson, Maple Grove; nephew, Nicholas (Heather) Hanson, Thief River Falls; nieces, Meredith Severson, St. Paul, Blythe (Paul Hallinan) Severson, Woodbury, and Kelly Hanson, Thief River Falls; also aunt, Florence Rustad, Grand Forks, N.D.; uncle and aunt, Harold and Jean Brandon, Middle River and many cousins in the TRF area.
Patricia was preceded in death by her parents; and her uncle Kenneth “Bud” Rustad.
