Grygla - Robert Verbout, 86, Grygla, died on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2012 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Dec. 15, 2012 at St. Clement’s Catholic Church in Grygla, with Father Rick Lambert presiding. Casket bearers included Jeremy Verbout, Shaun Verbout, Ryan Smith, Garrett Magner, Jeff Partridge, Joshua Smith and Kyle Verbout. Interment was held at St. Clement’s Cemetery in Grygla.
Robert Hippolet Verbout was born on May 3, 1926 in Argyle, the son of Hippolet and Hazel (Hill) Verbout. At an early age, Robert’s family moved to the Fourtown area. He was baptized in Argyle and confirmed at St. Clement Catholic Church in Grygla. Robert attended the Spruce Grove School near Fourtown through the eighth grade and started farming at the early age of 16.
On June 2, 1952, Robert was united in marriage to Mary Ann Polansky at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Middle River. They made their home on a farm east of Grygla, where they farmed, milked cows and raised their eleven children, Dennis, Sharon, Barbara, Shirley, Susan, Ardell, Lenay, Gerald, John, Roxane, and Dawn. Over the years, Robert also worked planting trees for the Soil Conservation; worked for the Marshall County Highway Department; managed the grocery store in Goodridge; and worked at the Grygla High School.
Robert enjoyed deer hunting with his brothers, sons, and grandchildren; making silly games for the grandchildren and playing jokes on them. Robert took special care to provide for his family and always enjoyed making money for a rainy day.
Robert was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Grygla, and served on the church council for many years.
Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Mary Ann of Thief River Falls; children, Dennis (Sherry) Verbout of Grygla, Sharon (Steve) Hook of Thief River Falls, Barbara (Robert) Partridge of St. Michael, Shirley (Danny) Magner of Newfolden, Susan (William) Smith of Badger, Ardell (Jay) Smith of Badger, Lenay (Kurt) Hermanson of Thief River Falls, Gerald (Janelle) Verbout of Wannaska, John Verbout of Grygla, Roxane (Barry) Kirkeide of Greenbush, and Dawn (Ward) Wilson of Greenbush; 29 grandchildren, Jeremy Verbout, Shaun Verbout, Melissa Verbout Gould, Kim Hook Fritz, Katy Hook Voecks, Anne Hook, Heather Partridge Lemieux, Jeff Partridge, Jackie Magner Gonsorowski, Garrett Magner, Ryan Smith, Tracy Smith, Joshua Smith, Jason Smith, Tiffany Hermanson Eidelbes, Philip Hermanson, Bethany Hermanson Larson, Kyle, Tyler, Ashley, and Alex Verbout, Matthew, Alisha, and Megan Verbout, Kayla, Courtney and Cody Kirkeide, Chantel and Nicholas Wilson; 29 great-randchildren, Erika, Troy and Samantha Verbout, Reise, Reid and Brynn Verbout, Alexis, William and Sawyer Gould, Lily and Lexi Lemieux, Peyton Partridge, Gannon and Easton Gonsorowski, Grady and Jace Magner, Jaden and Carissa Smith; Jorah Smith, Dylan Walker, Hailee, Ethan, Aiden and Braxton Eidelbes, Keigan, Tayla and Bentley Hermanson, Rylie and Allie Larson; brothers and sisters, Eileen Miller of Moorhead, Grace (Ralph) Rundell of Grygla, Betty (Bob) Willet of Moorhead, Melvin (Irene) Verbout of Fargo, N.D., Delores (Conrad) Gracier of Colorado, Wayne (Marie Ann) Verbout of Grygla; sisters-in-law, Angeline Verbout and Phyllis Verbout; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Rolland “Butch,” Lynn and Donald Verbout; brothers-in-law, Harold Miller; sister-in-law, Shirley Verbout.
