    Bismarck, N.D - Russell Thune, 90, Bismarck, N.D., died Tuesday, Oct. 9  2012, at the Baptist Home in Bismarck, N.D.  
    Services were held Friday, Oct. 12 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Bismarck, N.D., with Rev. Steve Sathre officiating. Interment was held at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Bismarck.
    Russell was born on Sept. 29, 1922 in Hazel, the son of Ole and Clara (Arneson) Thune. He grew up on the family farm near Hazel and attended the country school near his home. He enlisted in the Navy and served in China at the end of World War II. Russell and his son David had the privilege of going on a Freedom Flight in June 2011 to Washington, DC, to see the World War II Memorial.
    He married Jane Levorson from Grygla, on June 19, 1949. Russell worked the family farm until 1959, when he and Jane moved to Bismarck, where he began work with Brady Construction. He continued working for Alvin Brady for several years and built many homes in Bismarck, including his own.  He was a great carpenter who had the ability to remodel and fix nearly anything.  His children and friends have all benefitted from his handy-work. He and Jane loved to travel and visit family and friends on a regular basis.
    He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Sons of Norway, the Bismarck Eagles, Elks Club, the VFW and the American Legion.
    Russell is survived by his wife, Jane and seven children, Lynette (Marty) Pitzer, Darlene (Tim) Shea, Patricia (Dennis) Bosch, David (Beth) Thune, Peter Thune, Bruce Thune (special friend, Nancy Schmidt), and Kevin (Betty) Thune.  He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, Michelle Pitzer, Brian Pitzer, Beth Feenern, Chip Shea, John Shea, Andy Shea, Kristin Hager, Craig Bosch, Kara Thune, Mike Thune, Bob Thune, Erica Thune, Joel Thune, Jared Thune and Marcus Thune; 12 great-grandchildren; his sister-in-law, Myrtle Thune, Thief River Falls; and special friends, Ervin and Ramona Wanner.
    He was preceded in death by his grandparents; his parents; brother and two sisters.
    Condolences can be sent to 1214 E Boulevard Ave, Bismarck, ND, 58501.  Memorials can be given to Sons of Norway or Trinity Lutheran Church.
